Mar. 3, 2020 -

1.                     Staff to return with how difficult it would be to overlay existing open spaces with potential open spaces for the sites.

2.                     Staff to rank the recommended sites on the level of opportunity.

Fiscal Consideration:

Fiscal Consideration

No budget has been earmarked for these potential pocket parks, as all Wild Spaces Public Places “active” park revenue is currently encumbered for other Board approved projects.  The estimated cost for acquisition and development is approximately $275,000 per park/location.

Background:

At the Board’s direction, staff reviewed potential pocket park sites and prioritized them based on .25+ acre undeveloped lots in the urban cluster in Census Tracts with 10% poverty.  The two locations meeting the established criteria are located on East University Avenue and Northern Lakeshore Drive.

The successful redevelopment of Hopkins Park (SWAG neighborhood) highlighted the need for more pocket parks in Alachua County.
