Background:

In December 2019 the County Commission adopted the update to the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan 2019-2040.  This update to the Unified Land Development Code will make the ULDC consistent with the recently updated Comprehensive Plan.

The process of updating the ULDC consisted of five public workshops and meetings have been held throughout 2020 with the Planning Commission, the County Commission and the public to solicit input on necessary updates. There were meetings with 10 focus groups as well as a daylong public workshop to discuss Tree Protection and Landscaping.

The update proposes to address as necessary and appropriate over 400 separate comments received by Staff and the Consultant from a wide range of sources as well as to update the ULDC to be consistent with Comprehensive Plan Update.  This update was preceded in 2020 by updates to address Open Space and Rural-Commercial Agriculture Design Standards.

This is the first of two required hearings.  Staff is prepared to make any revisions to the ordinance requested by the Board and return for the second public hearing on November 10th.
