Background:

In 2016, at the direction of the County Manager, Public Works sought out a GPS Tracking Solution that would provide enhanced safety, decreased fuel consumption, improved efficiency and accountability for all departments utilizing vehicles under the Board of County Commissioners.  On Feb. 18th, 2018, this contract was extended through Sept. 30th, 2020.

The GPS system has been very successful at providing verification of services being provided according to set schedules, such as maintenance of right-of-way and as a dispatching tool, allowing the closest available unit to respond in Animal Services.

The current contract, based on a Sourcewell Agreement, is for a term ending June 1st, 2022, with the County having options to renew for additional terms coinciding with future amendments to the Sourcewell Agreement. The contract is for a total of 390 GPS units to be utilized in automobiles, medium and heavy trucks and heavy equipment owned by the County. All current GPS hardware in use will be updated with new 4G LTE equipment with this contract.
