Background:

The City of Gainesville recently amended its code to prohibit individuals from standing, walking, sitting, or staying in traffic separators, defined as medians that are 6 feet or less in width. The City also created a citation penalty of $50 for violations of this ordinance after a warning. The proposed ordinance for the Board’s consideration mirrors the substance of the City’s pedestrian safety ordinance.
