In December 2020, Alachua County contributed $43,420 to Hawthorne’s CRA fund based on a millage rate of 7.8935.  In the same period, The City of Hawthorne contributed $29,261 to the same fund based on a millage rate of 5.3194.

Background:

The Board of County Commissioners has expressed a CRA policy preference to match millage rate contributions of municipalities.

There are three statutory CRA currently with Alachua, High Springs, and Hawthorne.  The County matches the City of High Springs millage contribution.  The Cities of Alachua and Hawthorne represented older agreements and have a differential of millage rates that will be renegotiated for equity at their renewal.

Manager Vause presented the Hawthorne CRA FY2019-20 accomplishment and plans for FY20-21 on February 9, 2021.

The base year of the City of Hawthorne’s CRA is 1980.  Since that time, the CRA district has increased to 110% of its original taxable value.
