Description:
A two month extension of the existing Commercial Lease Agreement for office space in Fletcher's Center West for use by UF/IFAS Alachua County Extension ("IFAS").
Recommended Action:
Recommended Action
Approve the First Amendment to the Commercial Lease Agreement; authorize the Chairman to execute the Amendment; and authorize the County Manager (or her designee) to exercise the additional one month options, if necessary.

On May 23, 2020, the Board approved the Commercial Lease Agreement with Fletcher's Center West, LLC for IFAS office space.

Monthly rent for the space, including taxes, CAM and water, is $2,575.00. There is sufficient budget to cover this in account: 001.29.2920.537.44.00.

Background:
Alachua County has a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Florida Board of Trustees, dated May 2, 2016, in which Alachua County has agreed to "[p]rovide office space, support personnel, equipment, supplies, utilities...for the County Extension office..." The County had been providing office space to IFAS at the County Fairgrounds property located at 2300 NE 39TH Avenue, Gainesville, FL. The old
fairgrounds property is proposed for use by the US Army Reserve for an equipment concentration site. This required IFAS to relocate its offices.
The County is currently constructing new office space for IFAS at the new County Fairgrounds site located at 23100 West Newberry Road, Newberry, FL. Construction of this new office space is expected to be completed by August 31, 2021. IFAS, in cooperation with County staff, identified a location for interim offices located in Fletcher's Center West at 106 SW 140th Terrace, Suite 3, Jonesville, FL, and the County entered into a one year lease for the office space with the property owner, Fle...
