Description:
The Latina Women's League, creators of the Gainesville Latino Film Festival (GLFF), requests adjustment to previously awarded grant funding. The proposed new activities for the 2021 GLFF are scheduled for September 9-30, 2021 with 7 proposed featured films representing 7+ countries. Admission is free and open to the public. This year the films will revolve around the deep social traditions that highlight the interrelationship with nature and connect people from different communities. Each film provides an opportunity to engage the community, and is enhanced when directors and screenwriters are brought to Gainesville to discuss the creative process and motivation behind the films, with objectives to provide storytelling, educational programs, concerts, and special events in collaboration with the community, including Nature's Creativity, featuring a workshop on creating musical instruments and artwork from materials that may be found in nature or recycled after their habitual use; weekend family events, (for example the partnership with the Florida Museum of Natural History for Viva Museum, and with the Harn Museum for Noche de Museo); interactive folkloric dance performances from Mexico, Peru, and Panama; and gastronomic experiences in partnership with local businesses; and Baila Gainesville, a major musical and art event, attracting the organization's largest audiences each year. Uniquely positioned to increase responsible cultural tourism to Gainesville, the GLFF goes above and beyond showing high quality films, delivering a comprehensive cultural experience that provides opportunities to learn and enjoy Latin American and Latinx history, culture, and arts.
