Background:

In March 2020, the Florida Department of Health-Alachua, Alachua County Emergency Management and Alachua County Community Support Services collaborated to create a program to prevent COVID-19 transmission among homeless individuals and individuals unable to isolate safely at home.  Additionally, the program serves to prevent the spread in the general population through contact with COVID-positive individuals unable to safely isolate themselves. These individuals, who were referred to the program by community medical providers, were placed in hotel rooms and provided with safe transport, medical supervision, food, toiletries and other needed items. The Econolodge University, RTS, UF Medical Outreach Team, Grace Marketplace, and St Francis House worked with the Florida Department of Health, Alachua County Emergency Management, and Alachua County Community Support Services to complete more than 100 hotel stays and serve over 120 individuals over 18 months.
