Background:

The State of Florida, Division of State Fire Marshal, is providing financial assistance to help fire departments procure equipment to mitigate exposure to hazardous, cancer-causing chemicals.  Alachua County was awarded a grant in the amount of $5,586.75 which requires a local match of $1,862.25 from the MSBU-Fire fund.  The purchase of an extractor will allow staff to more efficiently launder the firefighting gear after each fire.  The Department currently only has two extractors that service the 15 stations over 960 square miles.

Because the grant award was less than $50,000, the Manager has the authority to approve the grant agreement. The resolution and budget amendment to recognize the unanticipated additional revenue and appropriate the funds for expenditure now requires Board approval. .
