Background:

The Good Jobs Challenge grant would be used to:

• strengthen our sectoral partnerships with employers, cities and counties, local school districts, local chapters of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), local chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), and local CareerSources;

• expand training opportunities in emerging technology/sustainable energy (solar and electric vehicle charging stations) for apprentices and journeymen;

• increase entrepreneurship opportunities for electricians by providing business start-up professional training;

• and increase applicants from traditionally underserved populations to registered apprenticeship programs through implementation of pre-apprenticeships in Gainesville and Daytona Beach and expanded recruitment efforts. We are also seeking to retain underserved populations in the apprenticeship programs, possibly through program exit interviews to gather data that can be used to strengthen retention, and through the provision of wraparound services.
