Background:

Almost a decade ago, on December 11, 2012 a BoCC Motion regarding 3 minute history readings passed.  The first reading by the appointees of the County Historical Commission began in March 2014.  This reading is third in a series on the “Florida Indians” history about the early Indigenous people of Alachua County.   When the first of the series was presented on February 9, 2021 a BoCC Motion directed staff to place historical markers to get the information out to public to commemorate the information from the Historical Commission presentation. The Historical Commission created a Cuscowilla History Subcommittee that is working on interpretive information for the site.
