Background:

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, adopted and signed into law this year, provides for several new grant opportunities for various levels of local government. One of these, the Safe Streets for All grant, funds regional and local initiatives to prevent deaths and serious injuries for all users. The grant is funded at $5 billion over five years and includes opportunities for both planning and implementation grants.

The City of Gainesville has indicated that they will be applying for an implementation grant for safety modifications to University Avenue. They have requested a letter of support from the County that they may submit with their application package. The Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization provided a letter of support at it’s last meeting for this project.
