Background:

This is a resolution showing the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners’ continued support for the right to clean and healthy water in Alachua County. The Commission has understood the fundamental need to protect our surface waters, ground water and wetlands since the first wetland protection code was adopted in 1991. The protection of our water resources is vital to the maintenance of our water supply, to a diversity of aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna, to recreational opportunities, property rights, economic interests, and to the quality of life in Alachua County. The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners supports equitable remedies to protect wetlands and surface waters within Alachua County.
