Background:

The County Historical Commission is an advisory board that works to preserve historic resources and provide interpretive information to the public.  Comprised of 11 Citizen at Large members and one alternate, the group meets monthly ten (10) times a year.  Topics include state historic markers, historic cemeteries, discussion of the County Truth and Reconciliation project and other assignments as directed by the County Commission.  Also research assistance is provided as possible to citizen inquiries regarding local history.  At present some of the research areas are the history of the BoCC since the 1950s, and general histories presented as readings at County Commission meetings on a quarterly schedule.
