Background:
The Alachua County Comprehensive Plan's Capital Improvements Element lists the extension of 122nd Street north of SR 26 (Newberry Road) to eventually connect to NW 23rd Ave and NW 39th Ave as a priority project. This bid award and contract for this project is alteration to the existing signal structure to allow for new lane assignments on both approaches of 122nd Street at SR 26. This signal work will facilitate new lane configurations and allow for the eventual construction of the first phase of the corridor to the north. The new lane assignments for 122nd Street will be a dual northbound left, northbound through, a northbound to eastbound right turn, a southbound left and a southbound through/right lane. The roadway for the northbound approach is currently under construction and staff is negotiating with GRU for the land rights for the southbound approach. The signal work is scheduled to be completed Fall 2020.
