Award the Outdoor Sculpture to James Gabbert as desired by Dr. Cindy Sanders, Extension Director and discuss how to proceed with the indoor mural as the Board cannot award the indoor mural to Jeff Whipple, as requested by Dr. Cindy Sanders, because he did not submit a concept or price; or
Reject all bids as recommended by the Selection Committee at their April 5 meeting; or
Select any other submission(s) the Board may prefer.
Authorize staff to issue a purchase order to the winning artist(s) to commence work if the Board makes a selection rather than rejecting all bids.

There is $31,596 available remaining for this art work, after all known advertising costs have been accounted for. The Director’s letter indicates that the exact costs aren’t known, but the supporting documents with the art renditions indicate that the costs of the two proposed pieces do not exceed this amount, as submitted.
Up to $2,000 in unspent budget from other projects may be available if needed. It may be needed if the art chosen exceeds the $31,596 (as it was originally advertised as $32,550, or if the Board elects to put the art out to bid again.

Background:
As part of the Alachua County Art in Public Places program, 1% (not to exceed $100,000) of capital project budgets is set aside to commission public artworks.
A total of 21 submittals were received for the new UF/IFAS Extension Office and evaluated by the Selection Committee, comprised of Arts Council members and Dr. Cindy Sanders, UF/IFAS Extension - Alachua County Director. The Selection Committee voted to recommend the Board reject all bids as the user department desired both an indoor mural and an outdoor sculpture in their demonstration gardens. It was confusing to the Selection Committee to evaluate and score the submittals since some artists applied for both sculptures and murals, while others only applied for one. However, Dr. Cindy Sanders would ask the Board to consider awarding the mural to Jeff Whipple and sculpture to James Gabbert in lieu of rejecting all bids (see attached letter).
