Background:

The 5,797.5-acre Lochloosa Slough Preserve, located south of Hawthorne, and east of Highway 301, was acquired by Alachua County Forever program through two acquisitions.  The first on December 12th, 2019, for 1,861.1 acres, and the second on January 24th, 2022, for 3,936.3 acres; both funded through Wild Spaces and Public Places surtax funds.  Management goals for the preserve include restoring diverse longleaf pine habitat through re-planting harvested areas, prescribed burning, and invasive plant management, protecting the diverse and numerous wetlands on the preserve, and providing public recreational access once the management planning process is completed.

The work to be completed through this project includes road maintenance and repairs to facilitate preserve management. Also, installing hardened low water stream crossings to facilitate access throughout the preserve and to protect the stream channels with road crossings to reduce erosion and sedimentation.

BID 23-398 Lochloosa Slough Preserve FY 23 Road Improvement Projects was released on January 25, 2023.  The deadline for receipt of 23-398 Lochloosa Slough Preserve FY 23 Road Improvement Projects was March 15, 2023; two (2) vendors responded.
