Background:

The Board of County Commissioners has made climate change a priority with the formation of the Citizens Climate Action Committee and by directing staff to develop a Climate Action Plan. The vulnerability analysis will identify the impacts of climate change on critical infrastructure, water and natural resources, and the citizens of Alachua County. The vulnerability analysis will contribute to the Climate Action Plan. The Legislature has expanded grant programs to encourage Counties to complete vulnerability analyses focusing on the impacts of flooding from sea level rise and rainfall on critical infrastructure. The elements of the vulnerability analysis covered by this grant are those required by 380.093 F.S. to identify risks to critical infrastructure from flooding and climate change. The grant amount is $338,435 and covers 100% of these tasks. In total the grant covers approximately 45% of the total cost of the vulnerability analysis. The grant reimbursement period is backdated to July 2021.
