Background:
The Housing Authority Board is charged with maintaining the policy and fiduciary responsibilities pertaining to the Alachua County Housing Authority (ACHA). The ACHA is an independent legal entity created by section 421.27, Florida Statutes. Special Act of the Florida State Legislature in 1972 (Chapter 71-526, Laws of Florida, as amended by Chapter 2006-526, Laws of Florida), authorizes the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (Board) to appoint the members of the ACHA Board of Commissioners. The ACHA meets on the first Wednesday of each month. Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and are held at the Alachua County Housing Authority, 703 NE 1st Street, Gainesville.
As of July 31, 2020, there are 4 vacancies on the ACHA consisting of three “Citizen-At-Large” seats and one “Citizen-At-Large Alternate” seat. Staff recommends that the Board appoint four (4) citizens to serve on the ACHA as follows, with terms beginning August 1, 2020, and ending July 31, 2024:
There are seven (7) applicants for (3) Citizen-At-Large seats and (1) Citizen-At-Large Alternate seat.
