Background:

The Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM) has forwarded the agreement to Alachua County for the State’s 2021-2022 Emergency Management Performance Grant - American Rescue Plan Act (EMPG-ARPA).  The EMPG-ARPA Program contributes to the implementation of the National Preparedness System by supporting the building, sustaining, and delivery of core capabilities. The intent of the EMPG-ARPA Grant Agreement is to provide each county with the means to successfully manage and operate an Emergency Management Program by enhancing county emergency management plans and programs that are consistent with the State and Local Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans and Chapter 252, Florida Statutes.  Period of agreement will follow State Fiscal Year with an ending date of June 30, 2022.

The Emergency Management Section has been a recipient of both the State and Federal grants since the programs were created. These grants represent approximately 40% of Emergency Management’s annual operating funds. The remainder is provided by the Board of County Commission General Fund.  This additional EMPG-ARPA grant will provide funding to purchase enhancements for the Alachua County Emergency Management Office to improve functionality during activations.
