The purpose of the agreement is for medical direction services to be provided by University of Florida physicians. The agreement is required by State Statute 401 and Florida Administrative Code 64j for any public safety organization providing Advanced Life Support Services in the State of Florida

Background:
It has been 10 years since the original contract for medial direction between UF Health and Alachua County Fire Rescue was signed. Since then, the Medical Director’s role has expanded in the scope of practice and size. The concept of one Medical Director has increased by an Assistant Medical Director and two fellows. This team is responsible for developing medical protocols, educating and training Alachua County Fire Rescue employees as each employee works under the license of the Medical Director. The team also assists the department by providing direction and input in pre-hospital medical equipment, methods and practices.
