Prior Board Motions:

At the joint City of Gainesville Alachua County Meeting on March 2, 2022, Commissioner Cornell moved to ask staff to look at and come back with expanding the CRA district to include the full 8th and Waldo Rd area. Also, ask the City Commission to bring back to the County a timeline for when investments will be made directly into east Gainesville and what the timeline looks like for that corner.

The City and County have an interlocal agreement to jointly commit $70M over 10 years into GCRA stepping down the County contribution $100k every year till City and County deposit the same amount in year 10.

Background:

The City of Gainesville heard a presentation <https://gainesville.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=5556498&GUID=F18F1804-608E-4BD9-B42A-2A66FDA54474> on the Waldo Road and 8th Avenue site on April 28, 2022.  The presentation included a discussion of an East Gainesville Sports Complex.

 

On March 10, 2022, the City of Gainesville directed the City Attorney’s Office to draft an amendment to the interlocal agreement of the GCRA to expand the boundaries to include the entire city-owned land near the MLK/Citizens Field area.
