Prior Board Motions:
The County Commission approved two of the proposed Charter Amendments for consideration at public hearings. On May 26th, the Commission approved the proposed amendment regarding Natural Resource Protections and on June 9th the Commission approved the proposed amendment regarding an analysis of County policies for racial and gender bias.
Fiscal Consideration:
Fiscal Consideration
A couple of proposed ballot amendments may have fiscal impacts, including potential staffing needs to implement additional review requirements for the proposed natural resource protection standards and the ongoing budgeting of the newly approved position of Equity Manager. The full potential fiscal impacts cannot be determined until the details of any implementing ordinances that may be adopted for any approved charter amendment are known.

Background:
The Alachua County Charter is reviewed every ten (10) years by a Charter Review Commission (CRC) appointed by the County Commission whose mission is to review and propose amendments and revisions to the Alachua County Charter. The current CRC was appointed in September 2019 and consisted of twelve (12) members. The CRC has received 80 submittals from the public, twelve (12) of which they advanced for legal consideration and six (6) of which they advanced for public hearing. Of the six (6), four (4) resolutions proposing amendments to the Charter for voter consideration were adopted.
