Background:
Pursuant to Section 985.686, Florida Statutes, the County is responsible for paying the per diem cost for juvenile detainees prior to the disposition of the matter for which the juvenile is being held. The State pays per diem costs after disposition of each case. DJJ estimates the cost for initial payment by counties and subsequently reconciles the estimate to assure that all parties are paying the appropriate amount. The new estimate for SFY19/20 is $1,051,561.47. This is $301,561.47 over the FY19 budgeted amount.
