Description:

Five Veterans from Alachua County have submitted applications for two Citizen At Large (Veteran) positions available on the Veteran Services Advisory Board (VSAB).

 

Recommended Action:

Recommended Action

Appoint 2 veteran citizens to serve on the Alachua County Veteran Services Advisory Board in the Citizen at Large positions. Both terms will be from 9/1/2019 - 8/31/2023.

The 5 applicants to consider for appointment are: Patrick UpShaw, Juan Salva, Randall Dexter, Brenda Edvarsson and Chester Lundy.

None of these applicants have served on the Veteran Services Advisory Board before.

Background:

The Alachua County Veteran Services Advisory Board was established July 12, 1983 with multiple amendments to follow. This board consists of 16 members plus 1 alternate member. Nine of the members represent Veteran Organizations, Seven of the members represent Alachua County citizens who are Veterans and one alternate is an Alachua County citizen who is a Veteran.

The VSAB Veteran Services Advisory Board has been providing input and support from the Veterans Community to the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in regards to issues and services to the Veterans community for over 30 years. This board has an influential role in the Veteran's community and has contributed to the Alachua County community in various roles for those 30+ years.
