Funding for this service is budgeted in Fund 401.55.5541.537.31.00 which is funded by the Solid Waste Assessment. This is a unit price agreement and the total cost to the County will vary with the amount and type of E-Scrap collected. The estimated cost of this agreement for FY20 is $90,000.00 and is reflected in the FY20 budget.

Background:
The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department has operated the permanent Hazardous Waste Collection Center since 1999 where Alachua County residents can properly dispose of their Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) six days per week. Additionally, qualified business waste is currently accepted as well. In addition, the five (5) County Solid Waste Collection Centers have a HHW collection area, and the program also holds numerous mobile HHW collection events throughout the County annually. To insure the protection of the public's health, safety and welfare and for the protection of the environment, the County requires E-Scrap (consumer electronics) collected though the hazardous waste program be collected and properly recycled.
