Background:

There was a water main break at the Alachua County Jail due to the age of the infrastructure. The break required potable water to be shut off at the jail while the water main break was being repaired. A chiller plant is operated at the jail for HVAC. The chiller plant is fed by the potable water system and there is a groundwater well for back-up water supply in the event potable water is not available. During the repair, the chiller plant failed due to not having enough water supply. It was discovered the water line from the well to the chiller plant was undersized (0.5 inch) and could not supply the volume of water required to run the plant; the well supply line was upsized (1.5 inch) to adequately supply the plant. Brooks Building Solutions was authorized to upsize the line without a PO in place in order to get HVAC running at the jail while the water main was being repaired. The Department requests approval of Brooks Building Solutions invoice 29510 in the amount of $5,662.38 for this work.
