Background:
The Alachua County Veteran Services Advisory Board which is made up of representatives of various Veteran organizations in Alachua County. The VSAB primary goals are:
• to make recommendations to the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in regards to Veteran Related issues and topics.
• to serve as a conduit of communication between the vast veteran organizations providing feedback to the about the needs of the Veterans Community.
• to assist the Alachua County Veteran Services Office in promoting community awareness of services and benefits available to veterans and their families.
The Alachua County Veteran Services office coordinates major Veteran activities throughout the year. Some of these events includes:
• Annual Veterans Resource Fair and Stand Down
Memorial Day Ceremony at Forest Meadows Cemetery East
• Veterans Day Celebrations at the Veterans Memorial Park
• the Never Forget Ceremony honoring America’s Prisoners of War and Missing in Action.
• SWAG South West Advocacy Group Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway.
Nomination
Alachua County Post 2811 has nominated Chester Lundy as the Veteran Service Advisory Representative for Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Lundy is a retired veteran. Prior to this nomination, Mr. Lundy has not served on the VSAB.
