Background:

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program at the Federal level and distributes CDBG grant funds to the states. The State of Florida has received these grant funds from HUD.  The DEO is the CDBG grantee agency for the State of Florida, designated to receive funds annually for program purposes. The DEO is authorized to distribute CDBG funds to the Recipient so that the Recipient may develop and preserve affordable housing, provide services to communities, and create and retain jobs.
Alachua County was qualified and eligible to receive these grant funds.  Alachua County will rehabilitate at least 11 homes.  Homes that are unable to be rehabilitated may be considered for replacement.  In response to Alachua County's application for funding to the DEO on February 13, 2017, the DEO has awarded Alachua County funding in the amount of $750,000.00 in the Housing Rehabilitation category under the FFY 2016 Florida Small Cities CDBG program. These funds will be used to pay administrative costs and to make minimum housing code related repairs to at least 11 homes owned by low income households though out the unincorporated areas of Alachua County.
