Description:
Request approval of the FY2020 Local Sports Destination Enhancement grant funding recommendations and make the legislative factual determination that Local Sports Destination Enhancement Grants, which are supported by Tourist Development Tax revenue, serve a public purpose and are primarily related to the promotion of tourism in Alachua County.

Approve recommended Local Sports Destination Enhancement Grant funding awards as recommended by the grant evaluation team, adopt the legislative factual determination that each funded event has, as one of its main purposes, the attraction of tourists as evidenced by the promotion of the event to tourists as documented in the event’s grant application, and authorize the County Manager to execute contracts after they are approved as to form by the County Attorney’s Office.

Background:
On November 4, 2019 the grant evaluation team, comprised of scorers recommended by the Gainesville Sports Commission, met in a public meeting to discuss their independent scoring, resulting in the recommended funding levels.
