Background:
Upon occasion, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners may have a desire to meet with other adjacent counties to discuss matters of mutual interest. A master resolution is attached which would authorize such meetings held within calendar year 2020. If the Board approves this action, separate ordinances will be generated for each of the Florida counties: Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Putnam, and Union.
Section 125.001, Florida Statutes (2019), permits the Board to hold meetings outside of Alachua County for the purpose of jointly meeting with the governing bodies of one or more adjacent counties or municipalities. The statute further states that such meetings may be held at any appropriate public place within the jurisdiction of any participating county or municipality, and requires that due public notice be provided within the jurisdiction of all participating municipalities and counties. However, the governing body of a county or municipality must first adopt resolutions authorizing participation in joint meetings.
