Background:
On October 18, 1988, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 88-106 to establish the Alachua County Health Care Advisory Board (HCAB). The HCAB is a nineteen (19)-member board consisting of low-income consumers and various community organizations focusing on individual and community health. The HCAB meets at least 6 times a year (alternate months).
HCAB responsibilities include:
• identifying gaps in health services for low-income residents
• making recommendations regarding patient eligibility
• monitor provider contracts and expenditures of county-funded programs
• make recommendations to the county regarding community health care needs
• identify state and federal resources for indigent health care
Currently, the HCAB has vacancies in the following positions:
Health Care Consumer, Mental Health Professional, UF Health Shands, and Wellflorida Council. Each of these positions will expire on December 31, 2022.
