Background:
The Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services is authorized by Chapter 401, Part II, F.S., to dispense grant funds. Forty-five (45) percent of these funds are made available to the 67 boards of county commissioners (BoCCs) to improve and expand pre-hospital EMS systems in their county. Each County is required to submit a Grant Application and request for grant fund distribution. The Alachua County grant award amount is $31,811.00.
Chapter 401 of the Florida Statutes authorizes the Florida Department of Health to award funds to eligible Florida counties for the enhancement of Emergency Medical Services. These funds are collected from surcharges on moving violations issued within the county and awarded to each eligible county for the purpose of improving and/or expanding their pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services. This is an annual process which requires no matching funds.
The State has notified Alachua County that the FY21 EMS County Grant is $31,811.00. The attached application and request for fund distribution is summarized as follows: $26,343.98 to Alachua County Fire Rescue for the purchase of portable ultrasound equipment, Advanced Airway Training, Critical Care Advanced Airway Classes, and AED Defibrillators; $800.00 for Suction Unit for Lacrosse Fire Department; $4030.80 for the purchase of AED Defibrillator & Vital Sign Monitor for the Town of Micanopy; $636.22 to the North Central Florida Trauma Agency for ongoing trauma studies.
