Background:
The Alachua County Charter Review Commission proposed an amendment to establish the Affordable Housing Trust Fund in order to create and sustain affordable housing. Voters approved the amendment which was placed on the November 2020 General Election Ballot. The Charter Review Commission directed the County Commission not later than July 1, 2021, shall adopt one or more ordinances implementing the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
Staff seeks direction from the BoCC on the administration of the Alachua County Housing Trust Fund and identification of revenue sources in support of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
The next step is for the BoCC to authorize staff to develop an ordinance establishing the Alachua County Affordable Housing Trust and to authorize approval of staff to advertise a public hearing on the ordinance to be held on May 25, 2021.
