Request to Approve the FY22 Local Sports Destination Enhancement Grant Program Funding Awards
Recommended Action:
Recommended Action
Approve the five Local Sports Destination Enhancement Grant funding awards as recommended by the grant evaluation team. Approve the contract template, authorize staff to issue each grantee a grant contract and corresponding purchase order, and authorize the County Manager to execute contracts, with all grant awards to be payable on a reimbursement basis only.
Make the legislative factual determination that the events, venues and activities recommended for Local Sports Destination Enhancement Grant funding have as one of their main purposes, the attraction of tourists as evidenced by the promotion of the event to tourists as set forth in their respective applications, and that each grant award is primarily related to the advancement and promotion of tourism.

Prior Board Motions:
The board has reviewed and approved Local Sports Destination Enhancement Grant applications on August 27, 2019, October 27, 2020 and on September 28, 2021.
The Local Sports Destination Enhancement Grant Program Application aligns with the Nature and Culture Destination Enhancement Grant program guidelines, whereby the maximum grant request is based on a percentage of the organization’s budget. Annual attendance figures are a major scoring criterion.

Local Sports Destination Enhancement grants are funded by the third penny of Tourist Development Tax collections. The total award amount for the FY22 grants is $130,000. There is sufficient funding available for these awards in the FY22 budget.
