Background:

The Advisory Committee on Rural Concerns was originally established in April 2003 by the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners. The Resolution establishing the Committee states that its responsibilities shall be to: establish the importance of our rural, unincorporated agricultural and historic settlements; assist in the development and evaluation of policies and programs affecting the rural areas of the County; represent the rural areas in the County’s various community planning processes and hearings; and assist in the recognition and determination of the needs of the County’s rural residents and advise the Board accordingly.

The Committee’s specific membership categories are identified in Section 2 of the current Resolution. The four membership categories each currently needing an appointment to a position with a term beginning 10/01/2022 through 9/30/2025 are: Member from the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS); Member Actively Involved in Agriculture and/or Silviculture; Member Residing in the Unincorporated Area Outside the Urban Cluster Designated in the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan; and Member Chosen At Large.

There are 7 applicants eligible to be considered for appointment to one or more of the four positions: Rodney Clouser, Lyman Conover, Jennie Ford, James Longanecker, George Mells, Jeanne Sims, and Joanne Tremblay. Some of the applicants are eligible for and have expressed interest in more than one position, as specified on the attached Tallysheet. There is 1 applicant for the position of Member from the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS).  There are 2 applicants for the position of Member Actively Involved in Agriculture and/or Silviculture. There are 2 applicants for the position of Member Residing in the Unincorporated Area Outside the Urban Cluster Designated in the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan. There are 6 applicants for the position of Member Chosen At Large.
