The County Historical Commission has two (2) vacancies, requiring appointments.

Appoint two positions to the County Historical Commission.  One Citizen at Large for a term ending April 30, 2024 and one Citizen at Large for a term ending April 30, 2025.

Background:

The Alachua County Historical Commission is an advisory board with the mission “To promote, preserve, and protect Alachua County’s historic resources.”

 

The Historical Commission is charged with responsibilities and duties including:

 

“1. To promote, preserve and protect Alachua County’s historic resources; it shall be the duty of the Historical Commission to, (1) represent Alachua County in matters pertaining to the history of, and (2) provide leadership in advancing the identification, protection, preservation, and interpretation of Alachua County’s cultural heritage.

2. Provide historical research and provide documentation as needed for exhibits, educational programs and pamphlets about County history. The Historical Commission shall encourage, and may assist, local organizations such as museums, libraries and archives, historical, archaeological, and genealogical societies, and other institutions having historical objectives.

3. Provide assistance and advice to the Alachua County Commission on matters related to County history.”

 

Note that a separate agenda item is included to extend the sunset date of the advisory board through 2025.
