Background:
The Friends of Cuscowilla are a 501(c)3 organization who fundraises for Camperships and capital improvements at Cuscowilla Nature & Retreat Center.
The Friends of Cuscowilla donated the following for Camperships over the past two summers:
Summer 2021: $23,400 (scholarships were provided for all campers)
Summer 2022: $8,510 (scholarships were provided for those with a demonstrated financial need)
Total: $31,910
The Friends recently received a grant from Duke for Nature Center improvements totaling $36,800 (as approved by the Board at your Oct. 11 meeting). Staff has not yet received the funding to start this project. They have also received prior approval from the Board to install a butterfly garden (complete), signage (in progress), and improvements to the Scout Cabin (deferred until additional funding can be secured).
Currently, donations received by the Friends follow the Board’s established Donation Policy. The execution of the attached agreement will allow the County Manager to approve donations and enhancements.
