Background:
The Board has had a long-standing partnership with the Gainesville Sports Commission, which serves as the athletic arm of Visit Gainesville Alachua County to attract out-of-county sports tourism events to our community. Staff is requesting Board approval for a three-year extension for both their administration and bid pool contracts.
Currently, the Gainesville Sports Commission can roll over unspent administration funds. However, staff is requesting that provision be eliminated and the following verbiage added, “Unspent administration funding may be allocated on a case-by-case basis for future year expenses, with the prior approval of the Board of County Commissioners.” Staff would also request the Board allow them to roll over their requested carry forward amount of $139,000.
Similar language was added to their bid pool contract, stating, “Unspent bid pool funding may be allocated on a case-by-case basis for future year events, with the prior approval of the Board of County Commissioners.” Staff would request the Board allow them to roll over their requested carry forward amount of $58,000.
The investment Alachua County makes through our partnership with the Gainesville Sports Commission advances sports tourism by creating a positive return on investment for our local community.
