Request Approval of Public Art Loan and Display Agreement for Portrait of Judge Stephan P. Mickle, Sr. for display at the Alachua County Judge Stephan P. Mickle, Sr. Criminal Courthouse

Approve Agreement as presented and authorize the Chair and Clerk to sign.

Oct. 26, 2021 - Approval of Authorized Criminal Courthouse Modifications Chair Letter.

 

Oct. 12, 2021

1.    Provide signage for the courthouse including the existing signage plan with the addition of a sign up high on the building and changing way finding signage.

2.    Approve event cost in-kind including printing, audio visual, and light refreshments.

(Funding of up to $12,500 for Items 1 and 2.)

3.    Allow for modifications for a static educational display and signage interior to the courthouse on the first floor once an architectural and maintenance plan has been presented to the Board and approved. The content be approved by the Board through the Truth and Reconciliation Committee and tell the larger story including Judge Mickle.

4.    That the Board approves entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the appropriate party for an up to $50,000 match of funds raised by the community. The privately raised donations need to go through the County process for donations.

Background:

The family of Judge Stephan P. Mickle, Sr. has loaned to the County a portrait of Judge Mickle to displayed in the Courthouse to serve as a tribute and to be available for public viewing.  The Public Art Loan and Display Agreement sets forth the terms regarding the installation of the portrait and its return.
