Background:

The mission of the Alachua County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) is to review the established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and comprehensive plan of Alachua County and in doing so, make recommendations for specific actions or initiatives that will encourage and preserve affordable housing.

 

The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) consists of County residents are appointed by the BoCC. The State of Florida requires local jurisdictions that receive State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) Program funds to form an AHAC. Annually, the AHAC drafts an Incentives and Recommendations Report (IRR) that examines the regulations, fees, policies, and procedures that affects the development and related costs of affordable housing in Alachua County.

 

The Alachua County Housing Programs uses SHIP funds to support strategies that provide affordable housing programs (including Home Repair, First Time Home Buyer Down Payment Assistance, and others) for low-income residents.

 

​AHAC held six public meetings to solicit citizen input in drafting the Incentives and Recommendations Report (IRR).

 

The meetings were as follows:

 

April 11, 2019 - Gainesville

April 24, 2019 - Archer

May 7, 2019 - High Springs

May 16, 2019 - Hawthorne

May 23, 2019 - Micanopy

October 24, 2019- Gainesville
