Recommended Action:

Recommended Action

Approve the issuance of Purchase Order 2020-913, to Bennett Fire Products Co. Inc., in the amount of $155,000.00, for the purchase of Bunker Gear.  Pricing per Lake County Contract #17-06068.

 

This purchase is exempt from the County's competitive bidding requirements pursuant to Section 22.11(15) of the Alachua County Purchasing Code, which permits the County to purchase supplies, materials, equipment and services under the terms and conditions established under an existing contract that the vendor has with federal, state, municipal government or any other governmental agency. However, since the dollar amount of the purchase exceeds the purchasing authority of the Purchasing Manager, this Purchase Order is being submitted for Board consideration and approval.

The purchase of replacement bunker gear of $75,000 is included in the FY20 Adopted Budget.  In addition, $18,000 was included for the eight new employees assigned to the new rescue unit and $80,000 for bunker gear related to the funded Cancer initiative issue. Sufficient budget exists in the MSBU Fire Fund account 011.54.5480.522.52.70.

Background:

The Department of Fire Rescue purchases bunker gear to be compliant with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements.  The FY20 Adopted budget includes recurring funding of $75,000.00 for bunker gear replacement, $18,000.00 for the new rescue unit, and $80,000.00 for the cancer initiative.  The total purchase order is $155,000.00 and requires Board approval.
