Description:
Alachua County has received a Notice of Grant Award from the Corporation of National and Community Service, a federally funded agency, in the amount of $421,467 to continue the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP). The Performance Period is for three years from 04/01/2019-03/31/2022. The Budget Period of the grant is 04/01/2020-03/31/2021.

Recommended Action
Accept the Foster Grandparent Program Notice of Grant Award, in the amount of $421,467 to continue the Foster Grandparent Program. Provide County cash match funding in the amount of $108,563 per grant fiscal year and approve the Resolution and Budget Amendment.

Background:
The Corporation of National and Community Service (CNCS) mission is to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in community-based service that improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement. The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) is an intergenerational program first established in 1965 that connects volunteers to support children who with special and exceptional needs academically and socially. CNCS awards federal FGP grants on a competitive basis to eligible public agencies. As a sponsor of the grant, Alachua County is responsible for fulfilling project management to accomplish the goals established by CNCS. Alachua County is also required to contribute at least 10 percent of the total project cost. Since 1973, the program has been a great asset to the community and students of Alachua County.
