Background:

The Recreation and Open Spaces Advisory Committee was established in 1999 through Resolution 99-49, by creating a single resolution from Resolutions 95-53, 89-16, 86-17, and 83-102.  In March 2019, the Resolution was amended to reduce the committee size from nine (9) members plus one (1) alternate to five (5) members plus one (1) alternate and extending their sunset date until February 28, 2024.  In 2020, their Resolution was further amended to replace the School Board designated position with a Citizen At Large position.

The Board is being requested to approve Resolution 21-xx, attached, which consolidates all previous resolutions; adds Responsibilities and Duties 5-7; and updates the Membership section from “City of Gainesville Representative” to “Citizen at Large.”  Finally, membership terms have been increased from two to four years.  This change will allow member consistency as large parks projects can take several years (from inception to completion).  Current members will keep their same term, but can re-apply for a four-year term at the conclusion of their current two year term.
