Recommended Action:
Recommended Action
As inspiration for a bronze sculpture to be placed on the west lawn of the Alachua County Administration Building, select from the following individuals:
1. Dr. Patricia Hilliard-Nunn
2. Dr. Cullen Banks
3. Reverend T. A. Wright

Prior Board Motions:
May 11, 2021 - exploring the private donor and other private funds and working together with truth and reconciliation committee and cultural affairs committee, and meaningful, durable, and impactful, and reject all submittals with gratitude.

Fiscal Consideration:
Fiscal Consideration
Not to exceed $76,000 (50% of which is being contributed by an anonymous benefactor) for the fabrication, transportation and installation of the sculpture.

The FY22 Adopted Budget includes $38,332 from General Fund Special Expense for the advertising and the artwork itself; 001.04.0490.519.49.00

Background:
Alachua County solicited nominations for names of prominent, deceased, African American Alachua County citizens to be the inspiration for a "Call to Artist" for a bronze statue to be erected on the west lawn of the Alachua County Administration Building. Eleven nominations were received. For your information, nominations and/or photos of the individuals are provided in sharefile link attached to this agenda item. The Community Remembrance Project Committee shortlisted the nominations to their top three (Dr. Patricia Hilliard-Nunn, Dr. Cullen Banks and Reverend T. A. Wright), which were forwarded to the Alachua County Historical Commission for vetting.
