Background:
The department is investing in new equipment which will provide safety for our patients and protect our employees from injury. The Power-Load Power Cot Fastener system is a stretcher self-loading system that dramatically reduces the risks of user and/or equipment failure while loading and unloading stretchers into rescue units. The department has received 5 replacement rescue units and with approval, will have Power-Load Power Cot Fasteners installed in them. The long term plan is to transition all Rescue Units from the current system to this new technology. The transition will take place as rescue units are replaced through the vehicle replacement process.
On October 26, 2021, the Board set aside $137,712.00 of the FY2021-22 PEMT revenue for equipment replacement. The purchase for $91,955.60 will replace the stretcher load systems in five (5) rescue units. The costs includes a trade in value of $20,000.00 for the existing equipment.
This purchase is exempt from the County's competitive bidding requirements pursuant to Section 22.3-302 (28) of the Alachua County Procurement Code, Sole Source procurements in accordance with the Procurement Procedures Manual. However, since the dollar amount of the purchase exceeds the purchasing authority of the Procurement Manager, this Purchase Order is being submitted for Board consideration and approval.
