Byrne Grant Certification of Compliance - authorization for County Attorney to sign.
Recommended Action:
Recommended Action
Authorize the County Attorney to sign the U.S. Department of Justice-required form certifying that the County, as a sub-recipient of a Byrne grant, is compliant with 8 U.S.C. Section 1373 & 1644.

Prior Board Motions:
May 14, 2019 - the Board authorized the Chair to accept all necessary to enable application for the Byrne Countywide funds, which includes the "Fifty-one Percent" letter, the Certificate of Acceptance and the grant proposals, as identified in the "Fifty-one Percent" letter.

$91,348 from a FY 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, JAGC Countywide will not be available without this signed certification.

Background:
The JAG Countywide program is administered through FDLE in accordance with Chapter 11D-9, FAC. Each County is allocated funds by FDLE. FDLE requires that the units of local government within the County reach a consensus regarding the expenditure of JAG funds. This is done in Alachua County through the Byrne Grant
Advisory Board, which makes a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners. The Byrne Grant Advisory Board meeting was held on September 26, 2018 and their recommendation is included in the "Fifty-one Percent" letter. On May 14, 2019, the Alachua County Board authorized the Chair to apply for local funding consistent with the "Fifty-one Percent" letter. The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners was awarded funds for two programs to be administered by the Sherriff ($8,079.00 for Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Training & Safe Santa Fe Initiatives; and $29,516.00 for Law Enforcement Equipment Program).
