Background:
Community Support Services, Housings Programs is seeking to submit an online application to the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) to assist in the redevelopment of the Budget Inn in an amount not to exceed $4,900,000.00. The County held two public meetings on 3/9/21 and 10/12/2021 to receive public input. Alachua County is applying for the Community Development Block Grant - Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) federal funding available to states to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. DEO will administer the allocated funding to communities throughout the state. The County is eligible to apply for up to $5 million. Eligible Activities include acquisition; public improvements; public facilities; business assistance; microenterprise assistance; public services; planning; and broadband planning and public Infrastructure.

Alachua County recently acquired the Budget Inn, a 36-room hotel with the intent to convert the units into housing for the homeless. The housing division is requesting approval to submit a funding application to the Department of Economic Opportunity to assist in the redevelopment of the Budget Inn in an amount not to exceed $4,900,000.00.
